 Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Zentar Healthcare Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2045.

 Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions.

Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 2023 (1st January – 31st December)
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.

Zentar Healthcare’s annual emissions reporting began in the 2023 reporting year. Scope 1 emissions are zero because we have no directly owned or controlled emissions from our operations (no company vehicles or gas heating).

To better account for our real-world environmental impact given our hybrid-working business model, we have voluntarily reported estimated emissions from homeworking as part of the Staff Commuting Scope 3 category.

Upstream Transportation and Distribution emissions are considered immaterial to our business as we only purchase small amounts of office consumables.

Baseline year emissions:
EMISSIONS TOTAL (tCO2e)
Scope 1 0.00
Scope 2 0.56 (Location-based)

Scope 3

(Included Sources)

13.28

Upstream Transportation and Distribution: <0.1* Waste Generated in Operations: 0.02

Business Travel: 8.65 Staff Commuting: 4.62**

Downstream Transportation and Distribution: 0.00†

*A third-party screening analysis revealed this category of emissions is immaterial to our total carbon footprint so we have not measured further.

**Includes homeworking (4.18tCO2e)

†We do not sell products, so the Downstream Transportation and Distribution category is not applicable.

 Emissions reduction targets

Zentar Healthcare has committed to a long-term target of achieving net zero by 2045 in-line with the NHS.

In practice, this equates to a 90% absolute reduction in Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2045

from our 2023 baseline. The remaining 10% of emissions will be balanced by emissions removals to achieve net zero.

To ensure we make tangible, science-based and continuous progress towards our long-term target, we have also adopted a near-term target in line with the recommendations of the Science-based Targets Initiative:

42% absolute reduction in Scope 1,2 and 3 emissions by 2030 from our 2023

Our annual emissions reduction targets are set out in the chart below.

Our targets commit us to a decrease in total annual emissions over the next seven years to 8.03 tCO2e, a reduction of 42% against our baseline year.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Zentar Healthcare is committed to taking action to bring down our emissions in-line with our near-term and long-term targets. Projects currently being delivered or under consideration in this reporting period include:

  • Digital working: We will look to maintain our hybrid-business model by choosing to conduct virtual meetings with stakeholders rather than travel.
  • Local employment: All of our employees live locally to our office and commute by public transport.
  • Business travel: Locally, we will encourage active travel and use of public For any longer travel required in future, we will encourage use of fuel-efficient and/or electric vehicles and avoid flying where feasible. Flights accounted for 62% of emissions (8.59 tCO2e) in 2023.
  • Energy efficiency and waste: Taking steps to minimise energy usage and waste by engaging with team members to identify and implement efficiency improvements and routines in their day-to-day work from home and in the office. Options under consideration include sustainability awareness training for the team.
  • Measurement and metrics: Continuing to measure our emissions annually and put practices in place to continually improve data quality, including recording all business travel and more closely monitoring energy usage while homeworking. Longer-term, we will seek to expand our measurement of Scope 3 categories to better understand our wider carbon footprint.
  • Accountability: We will consider appointing one of our team members to be the designated Sustainability Champion who will lead on our carbon reduction and sustainability activities going forward.
  • Social Value: Exploring opportunities to increase our social value through environmental and other activities, including engaging with our local We will also look for opportunities to help and encourage our clients with their own sustainability work.
