The process

What happens, step by step

Every pathway is a little different — supply moves faster than permanent — but these are the stages most candidates recognise. Belle and the Education team keep each step clear so you always know what comes next.

Start

Register and share your story

You apply online or send a CV, then we open a short registration conversation. We want phase, subjects, SEND experience, preferred locations, and whether you are looking for supply, fixed-term or permanent work.

  • Tell us your availability and the settings where you thrive
  • Share classroom philosophy — behaviour approach, inclusion, age ranges
  • Flag anything that affects compliance early (gaps, overseas history, name changes)
Why this mattersA strong brief at the start means we only put you forward for roles that fit — not every vacancy that lands.

Zentar interview

Interview with Zentar Education

Next you meet one of our education consultants — often supporting Primary and SEND pathways. This is a proper conversation, not a tick-box call. We explore your classroom practice, safeguarding confidence, and what “the right school” looks like for you.

  • Walk through recent roles, strengths and development areas
  • Discuss pay pathways (PAYE vs umbrella) with clear worked examples
  • Agree the kinds of schools and briefs we should pursue — and the ones we should not
What you leave withHonest feedback, a shared plan for the next steps, and clarity on documents still needed before we can submit you to schools.

Compliance

Documents, checks and references

Safer recruitment sits upstream of every placement. We help you gather and verify what schools expect so a start date is not delayed at the last minute.

Typically we need

  • Proof of identity and right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS with children’s barred list (update service where applicable)
  • Prohibition from teaching / TRA checks for teachers
  • Qualification evidence — QTS, PGCE, degrees, TA/HLTA awards, SEND training
  • Recent professional references (usually including a headteacher, DSL or line manager)
  • Overseas police checks where your history requires them

References should speak to classroom practice, reliability and safeguarding conduct — not only confirm employment dates.

We stay proactiveIf something is missing or needs refreshing, we tell you early and help you close the gap before a school interview is booked.

Matching

Putting you forward to schools

When a brief matches your profile, we submit you to the prospective school or trust with a clear pack: experience summary, compliance status, and why you fit the cohort and timetable.

  • We only put you forward where the role and setting make sense
  • You are told which school, what the brief is, and what happens next
  • For permanent or specialist posts we may refine a longer list before a formal interview
No surprisesYou will know when your name has gone to a client — and you can say no if the timing or setting is not right.

Client stage

Interviews with the school

If the school wants to meet you, we arrange the interview — face to face, online, or a trial / observed session where that is the school’s process. We brief you on context: phase, SEND cohort, behaviour scripts, and who will be on the panel.

  • Interview logistics handled with the school’s HR or leadership team
  • Prep support where helpful — mock questions, lesson tips, what the school values
  • Feedback both ways after the meeting, whether you progress or not
You are never left guessingAfter client interviews we chase decisions promptly and share outcomes clearly — including constructive feedback when a role is not the right fit.

Offer

Offer, terms and start date

When a school wants to proceed, we walk through the offer: rate or salary, hours, length of booking or contract, and start date. Nothing is assumed until you are happy to accept.

  • Confirm commercial terms in writing
  • Final compliance pack ready for the school’s file
  • Code of conduct / school policies acknowledged before day one where required

Placement

Placement and ongoing support

You start with a named consultant still available. For longer bookings we check in after the first days and at midpoint — catching friction early so pupils and staff are protected.

  • Day-one briefing: contacts, routines, medical or safeguarding notes the school has shared
  • Quick escalation if something is not working in the room
  • Pathways into further supply, fixed-term or permanent roles when you want the next step
The relationship continuesPlacement is not the end of the journey — it is where classroom trust is built, and where Belle and the team stay on hand.

Candidate story

How that journey felt for Aisha

“I had been looking for a Primary SEND role that actually fitted how I work with children — not just another generic TA booking. Belle took the time to understand my experience, the settings where I thrive, and what I wanted next. Within days she had lined up interviews that felt right, and she stayed with me through offers and paperwork. The team at Zentar Education made the whole process feel human, clear and genuinely supportive. I am in a role I love because Belle and the team got it.” Aisha Rahman · SEND Teaching Assistant
